Free Lacey Crochet Baby & Toddler Bonnet- The Misha Bonnet

The Misha Bonnet

The Misha Bonnet is a gorgeous lacy bonnet made from a simple rectangle. The lace pattern looks extremely complicated but in reality is made from single, double crochet stitches and chains. I have filmed a row by row tutorial on how to stitch the lace rows to go along with the written instructions. The pattern includes 5 sizes; 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 1-2 years and 3-5 years. Make sure you check out the matching Misha Cardigan.

The Misha Cardigan

How about making the matching Misha cardigan?

The Misha Cardigan was an absolute joy to design. I have had my eye on the gorgeous lace pattern for a long time now and am so happy to see it in this stunning cardigan. Please don’t be intimidated by the way it looks! The lace is made up of single and double crochet stitches plus chains. That is it! The best part is once you have made the bonnet, you will fly through the cardigan pattern because you already know how to do the lace!

The cardigan starts off with a circular yoke and a sweet puff stitch motif. After the sleeves are separated, you will do one increase row and then start on the lace motif. The sleeves are added directly onto the cardigan and finished off with a sweet shell stitch edging. Wear the Misha Cardigan with jeans, over top of some cute bloomer bottoms, or with a fancy dress. The timeless design will be an heirloom for years to come.

US TERMS

Materials

*4.00mm (U.S. G/6) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
*DK Cotton yarn. I used Misha & Puff Studio, hand dyed super wash merino wool in the colour Rose Confetti. 100g/150m/164yds. This is a luxury yarn. If you want something a little more budget friendly, I would recommend using a cotton DK. See chart below for approximately how much yarn you will need.

Repeat rows 3-6 until you have 1618202224rows
of lace, or your desired length.  Make sure you end on a row 4 or 6.

The width of the bonnet should measure approximately:1516.5181920.5cm

66.577.58in
Do not break yarn.

Decrease of Bonnet Neck

Using the long tail, sew the back of the bonnet up using a mattress stitch or your preferred method on the WS.  We will now be working along the bottom of the bonnet.
Row 1 (RS)
ch1, place one hdc in the end of each row of lace along the bottom of the bonnet.
*Note* since the width of the hdc stitch is much less then the height of the lace rows, this will automatically decrease the bottom of the bonnet.
Row 2 (WS)

ch1, hdc in each st to the end of the row, turn
At this point, the bonnet’s measurements should be similar to those in the chart on page 2.  The following rows will add some extra height.

Repeat row 213131more times
You will have total of:35353
hdc rows along the bottom of the bonnet.   Do not break yarn, proceed to straps.
