Free Crochet Baby Bonnet Hat- Great Beginner Friendly Pattern

May 17, 2023

The Bobby Bonnet

The Bobby Bonnet is a wonderfully textured, gender neutral crochet bonnet that comes in 5 sizes from 0-3 months up to 3-5 years. The bonnet is made from a simple rectangle that is folded in half and seamed up the back to form its shape. A single crochet ribbing is stitched along the bottom and front of the bonnet and then two single crochet straps are stitched directly onto each side. Make the Bobby Bonnet in one solid colour or use some of your stash and alternate different colours for each row. This vintage pixie bonnet will look absolutely adorable on all the little ones in your life.

Make The Betsy Cardigan To Match

I have also designed this beautiful crochet cardigan called “The Betsy Cardigan” to go with the Bobby Bonnet. It uses the exact same stitch pattern! Once you have made the bonnet, you may just want to try your hand at making this gorgeous little cardigan too. Leave off the lace collar and it will be perfect for a little boy.

The Betsy Cardigan has the most amazing texture. The soft bobbles work up flat so the stitch pattern looks great on the right and wrong side. The cardigan is worked from the top down with the sleeves added after the body and inside edging is complete. Finally you will stitch the sweetest little Peter Pan lace collar. I think you will absolutely adore making this cardigan and your little one will never want to take it off. I would recommend this pattern for an intermediate crocheter.
