The Juniper Jacket: A Cozy Crochet Classic

Looking for a cozy, timeless addition to your handmade wardrobe? The Juniper Jacket might be just the pattern you’ve been searching for! This classic design looks darling over a long dress with tights but would also look great with jeans or leggings. Let’s explore what makes the Juniper Jacket unique and why it deserves a place on your crochet project list.

Design Details

The Juniper Jacket is designed with a generous positive ease of 12-18 inches, making it comfortable for layering over other clothes. It features a yoke constructed with rows of half double crochet stitches, enhanced by small increases to shape the shoulders. The ruffle row at the top adds a touch of charm, to complete this vintage look.

Step-by-Step Construction

The pattern guides you through the jacket construction in rows from the yoke down. Once the yoke is complete, the sleeves are separated, and the body is worked downwards, ending with a textured edging that adds a polished finish. The sleeves are crocheted flat and then seamed so that it is easy for a beginner to keep track of stitch counts.

Lulu is wearing the Cotswold Bonnet which is also a free pattern on this blog.

Customization Options

The Juniper Jacket offers plenty of customization possibilities. Choose a yarn color that complements your style, and choose unique buttons for an added personal touch. Add or subtract rows to the jacket body for the perfect length.

Materials:

*5.00mm(U.S H/8) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
*Aran(Worsted weight) yarn. I used Hayfield Aran Bonus with 20% wool in the colour Ginger (762)- 400g balls. The colour choices are gorgeous, it is budget friendly, and larger balls means fewer ends to weave in! See chart below for approximately how much yarn you will need.
*2-3 buttons
*tapestry needle
*4 stitch markers

Gauge

15 stitches/12 rows= 10cmX10cm (4X4 inch) square in half double crochet
