The Delphine Dress is a top down crochet dress pattern for babies and children, featuring puff sleeves, a ruffle skirt, and delicate button detailing.
I started it in several different forms before it finally became the version you see today. There was a fair bit of frogging, a few quiet rethinks, and that familiar feeling of knowing it wasn’t quite right yet. But when it finally settled into place, it was exactly what I had imagined, delicate, timeless, and full of soft feminine detail.
This is a dress made for twirling.

About The Design
The Delphine Dress crochet pattern is worked from the top down, beginning with a beautifully structured raglan yoke. If you’ve made any of my other garments, you’ll recognise my signature clear section breakdown:
Front / Increase / Sleeve / Increase / Back / Increase / Sleeve / Increase / Front
Each section is separated by stitch markers and includes stitch counts throughout, so you always know you are on track.
The yoke features alternating half double crochet and varied puff stitches, creating gentle texture without being overwhelming.
Once the sleeves are separated, the body flows into simple rhythmic rows before the ruffle row transforms everything. That skirt ruffle row increases the stitch count to create soft movement and beautiful drape.
The puff sleeves are shaped using a clever volume row that doubles the sleeve stitches, giving them that rounded silhouette without complicated shaping.
The dress is completely reversible. You can place the buttons at the front or the back depending on your preference.
Only two small underarm gaps require sewing at the end. Everything else is worked seamlessly as you go.

For the best fit, sizing should always be chosen based on chest measurement rather than age. The dress is designed with approximately 0–5 cm (0–2 inches) of positive ease.
Yarn & Materials
This baby and children’s crochet dress pattern uses DK weight yarn.
For my sample, I used Stylecraft Naturals Bamboo & Cotton in the shade Canyon, which gives the dress a soft drape and heirloom feel. You can substitute any DK yarn that meets gauge.
You will need:
- 4.0mm (G-6) crochet hook
- DK weight yarn
- 8–12 small buttons
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
Gauge:
16 stitches and 16 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in half double crochet.
