Hey friends. The Countryside Collection is here. After I designed the cardigan I could not stop thinking about how incredible the stitch pattern would look on a pinafore, romper, baby blanket and bonnet, so I went for it. Let me tell you, it has been a ton of work, but also so rewarding.
The Inspiration
When I moved to the Cotswolds from Canada, I was absolutely enchanted by the sleepy villages nestled amongst rolling hills . The honey coloured cottages are dripping with roses in the summer and fog clings to the ancient oak trees in the winter. I really felt like I had moved right into the pages of a fairytale. This collection is inspired by the romance of country life.
The Details
Puffs, ruffles and shells… YES, YES, YES! I love the way they work together to create such dainty details on the design. This cardigan uses the technique of placing each half double crochet stitch between the posts of the previous row. In other words, you place your hook beneath the loops of the stitch instead of into the stitch. This video tutorial shows you exactly how to do it. I have used a 4mm hook for the designs and sized down to stitch the edging to make it slightly more delicate. The cardigan is raglan style which means it is worked from the top down and then the sleeves are added afterwards, making it a great pattern for beginners.
The Yarn
Let’s be honest. Yarn can be so expensive. When you are making a lot of garments, you cannot splurge for every single one. For this collection I used Paintbox Yarns in the colour Vanilla Cream. It is so reasonable priced and very soft. The best part is my daughter does not try and rip it off of her body because it is not itchy at all. It is machine washable which is essential when you are making kids clothes. If you buy the yarn through the link I provide, I will make a very small commission which will help me continue making more designs for you to enjoy. I really appreciate your support!
