The Mia Coat Free Crochet Pattern

February 26, 2020

Hello everyone. I am so excited to share my newest pattern with you for free. I have designed this adorable double breasted jacket with the gorgeous MillaMia Naturally Soft Aran yarn which you can find exclusively on Love Crafts. Let’s talk a little bit about the design….

The Inspiration…

One of my incredible friends passed on the most exquisite Burberry Coat to Maggie. Let me tell you now, it is much nicer than anything I own! After she wore it over Christmas I thought I had to make a crochet version. This was my first time designing a double breasted garment so it took a little while to get the proportion correct but I am so happy with the way it turned out.

The Details

This pattern is beginner friendly. It only uses double and half double crochet! How amazing is that? The trick to this stitch pattern is the double crochet stitches are placed between the posts of the previous rows. This gives the jacket a more modern look because it doesn’t have those lines that come when stitching into the loops. Check out this video tutorial to see how it’s done. I have used a 4mm (U.S -G-6) crochet hook to get a gauge of 15 stitches/10 rows= 10cmX10cm (4X4 inch) square. The jacket is worked in a raglan style from the top down. The sleeves and the collar are added when the body is finished. Most of my testers finished this piece in less than two weeks!

The Yarn

This was my first time using MillaMia Naturally Soft Aran and I was so impressed. The aran/worsted weight yarn works up so quickly. MillaMia is so soft because it is 100% merino wool and it has the perfect weight for a jacket. The best part about this yarn is the absolutely breathtaking colours you can choose from. I am all about the colour of the garment when I am designing and since I prefer to use only one colour, it has to be perfect! A great alternative to the MillaMia is Paintbox Simply Aran.
