The Sienna Crochet Dress Pattern for Baby & Children’s Dress

There are some designs that feel special from the very first stitch. This crochet dress was on of those designs for me. I would like to introduce you to The Sienna Dress.
When I first saw this soft peachy pink cotton yarn, I knew I wanted to make something romantic, delicate, and full of texture. I wanted it to feel like the kind of dress you would keep in a memory box one day. Something handmade and nostalgic, but still simple enough to be worn, played in, and loved.
There is something so beautiful about a crochet dress that feels extra special without being fussy.
I wanted The Sienna Dress to have that feeling.
Soft ruffle sleeves.
A gently shaped yoke.
A full skirt with beautiful movement.
A delicate shell stitch texture that feels calming and rhythmic to crochet.
Tiny buttons down the back.
The kind of handmade dress that makes an ordinary day feel a little bit magical.
And today, I am so happy to share that The Sienna Dress crochet pattern is now available.
A Romantic Crochet Dress For Little Ones

The Sienna Dress is a top down crochet dress pattern designed for babies and children.
It has a softly shaped round yoke, delicate ruffle sleeves, and a full textured skirt. The stitch pattern uses a combination of shell stitches with front post and back post double crochet stitches, giving the dress beautiful texture and depth.
One of my favourite things about this design is the way the ruffle detail flows through the whole dress.
The sleeves are created by adding extra stitches on the fourth row, which gives them their soft frill shape. Later, the skirt uses a similar shaping technique so the whole dress has this gentle, romantic movement.
It feels sweet and traditional, but still relaxed and wearable.
The button fastening at the back adds such a pretty finish, while also making the dress practical for little ones.
A Crochet Dress That Feels Calm To Make

Although The Sienna Dress looks detailed, the stitch pattern becomes beautifully repetitive once it is established.
That was really important to me when I was designing it.
I wanted the dress to feel special, but I also wanted the making process to feel peaceful. The kind of crochet you can settle into slowly. The kind where the rhythm of the stitches becomes calming after a busy day.
The textured shell stitch repeat gives the dress its pretty handmade look, while still being enjoyable to work through row by row.
It is a lovely project for confident beginners who are comfortable following a garment pattern, and also a relaxing make for more experienced crocheters.
The Little Details

The Sienna Dress includes so many of the details I love most in children’s crochet designs.
The round yoke gives the dress a soft, classic shape.
The ruffle sleeves add a romantic finish.
The shell stitch creates beautiful texture without feeling overly complicated.
The skirt has lovely fullness and movement.
The back buttons make the dress feel delicate and timeless.
It is the kind of dress that could be worn for birthdays, family photos, summer days, garden parties, flower picking, or simply dressing up at home.
And I think that is what I love most about it.
It feels special enough for treasured moments, but still soft and comfortable enough for real childhood days.
Sizes Included
The Sienna Dress pattern includes the following sizes:
Newborn
3-6 months
6-12 months
2-4 years
4-6 years
6-8 years
8-10 years
The dress is designed to be worn with ease.
For the best fit, I recommend choosing the size based on the finished chest measurement of the dress rather than age alone. Children’s sizing can vary so much, so using the chest measurement will give you the most accurate fit.
The finished chest measurements are included in the pattern, along with approximate yarn requirements for each size.

Tested By Real Crocheters
One of the most important parts of releasing a crochet pattern is having it tested by real makers.
With so many patterns online now that can feel uncertain, rushed, or even AI generated, I think it matters more than ever to show that this pattern has been made by real crocheters, in real yarn, for real children.
The Sienna Dress has been tested across the size range so I could check the fit, construction, stitch counts, and overall finish before release.
Seeing the tester versions come together is always one of my favourite parts of the design process. Each dress looks a little different depending on the yarn, colour, and child it was made for, but they all carry the same soft, romantic feeling that I hoped this design would have.
I am so grateful to the makers who spent their time testing The Sienna Dress and helping me make sure the pattern was ready to share.
Below you can see some of their beautiful finished dresses.

Yarn & Materials

For my sample, I used Yarnsmiths Cotton DK in the colour Peachy Pink.
It is such a soft, romantic shade and felt perfect for this design.
The Sienna Dress is made using DK weight yarn. You can substitute with another DK weight yarn as long as you meet gauge.
You will need:
DK weight yarn
5.0 mm crochet hook
4.0 mm crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Buttons
The pattern uses an alternating front post double crochet, back post double crochet, and shell stitch pattern.
Gauge is given as:
2 shells x 6 rows = 6.5 x 7.5 cm in the stitch pattern.
Because this stitch pattern has natural stretch, gauge is intended as a guide rather than an exact requirement. The most important thing is keeping approximately the same shell measurement across the chest so the dress fits as intended.
