Easy Beginner Crochet Shell Tie Top- Adults & Children
There are some crochet projects that stay with you long after they are finished.
The Sea Shell Top is one of those designs for me.
I first began working on this pattern during a very special family trip to Australia. In the quiet moments between adventures, I found myself sitting near the ocean with my crochet, watching the waves roll gently onto the shore while little sandy feet wandered nearby. There was something so calming about those slow moments by the sea. Warm sunshine, salty air, and the steady rhythm of stitches in my hands.
Without even realising it at the time, those peaceful moments slowly found their way into this design.
The soft shell texture reminds me of tiny treasures gathered along the shoreline. The gentle movement in the sleeves feels light and effortless, like something meant to be worn on warm days with sun-kissed cheeks, salty hair, and sandy toes.
And today, I am so excited to finally share that the Sea Shell Top is now available in both child and adult sizes.
One of my favourite things about this design is that it feels incredibly special to wear while still being such a satisfying project to crochet. Sometimes we want a make that does not take weeks and weeks to finish. Something we can realistically complete over a few cosy evenings after the children are in bed, or take along on holiday to slowly work on between beach days and little adventures.
This is very much that kind of project.
Once you settle into the shell stitch repeat, it becomes wonderfully rhythmic and calming. The sort of crochet that feels soothing after a busy day. Before long, you find yourself holding an entire top in your hands, wondering how it worked up so quickly.

The Mini Sea Shell Top includes sizes:
6–12 months, 1–2 years, 2–4 years, 4–6 years, 7–9 years, and 10–12 years.
Adult Sizes Included
The Sea Shell Top includes sizes:
XS/S, S/M, M/L, and L/XL.
Both patterns are designed to be worn with ease. I always recommend choosing the size closest to your full chest measurement for the best fit.

Yarn & Materials
Both versions are worked using DK cotton yarn, making them lightweight, breathable, and perfect for warmer weather.
For the child sample, I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Dusty Rose, and for the adult sample, Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Vanilla Cream.
Because the design works up quickly and uses relatively small amounts of yarn, it also makes a lovely project for special skeins you have been saving.
