*5.00mm(U.S H/8) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
*Aran (worsted weight) yarn. I used Hayfield Aran Bonus with 20% wool and scraps of leftovers I had for the rainbow.
*tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge:
15 stitches/7 rows= 10cmX10cm (4X4 inch) square in double crochet

ch- chain stitch
hdc- half double crochet
dc- double crochet
RS- right side of the beanie
WS- wrong side of the beanie

ch 41 (45, 49, 53)
Row 1 (RS)
dc in the 3rd ch from hook, dc in each ch across, turn
Row 2 (WS)
ch2, dc in the front loop only of each dc across, turn
Row 3 (RS)
ch2, dc in the back loop only of each dc across, turn
Repeat Row 3 until your hat measures approximately 23cm/9in (25.5/10in, 28cm/11in, 30cm/12in). End on the RS.
RAINBOW ROWS
-I would recommend stitching in the ends as you go so you don’t have so much to weave in when you are finished.
Colour A (WS)
ch2, hdc in each dc across, turn
Colour B (RS)

Colour C (WS)

Colour D (RS)

ch2, dc in the back loop only of each dc across, turn
Row 2 (WS)
ch2, dc in the front loop only of each dc across, turn
Repeat Rows 1 & 2 until your beanie measures approximately 46cm/18in (51cm/20in, 54.5cm/21.5in, 58.5cm/23 in) from the first row or your desired length. Leave a long tail to seam. Using a mattress stitch seam up the two ends (WS). Using a whip stitch, close the top of the beanie.
